Completed tasks update Radar; completed meals update Kitchen and Pantry.
How the whole system connectsSee the three connected loops without opening every section.
LIFE LOOPTemplates or Quick Catch → Living Radar → Today → complete or roll forward

A task remains on the Radar even when it is used in a daily runbook. Completing it in either place updates both.

KITCHEN LOOPRecipes → meal plan → consolidated shopping → Pantry Orbit → next meal

Shopping adds purchased food to Pantry. Marking a cooked meal complete adjusts tracked ingredients and can create prepared leftovers.

REUSE LOOPEditable Templates and Kits supply both loops

Tasks, projects, and events enter Radar. Recipes enter the Kitchen shelf. Nothing is added silently.

About the Bureau, privacy & automatic savingWhat is saved, where it lives, and what the program does not collect.

The Bureau of Useful Things is a free, local-first program. Tasks, recipes, plans, checkmarks, settings, and custom templates save automatically in a private database on this device. It does not require an account, payment, AI service, advertising profile, or remote personal-data server.

Automatic recovery points are kept on the device and older ones are rotated so storage stays small. Program updates are installed separately from personal information: new BRR templates and structural improvements may be added, while personal entries, edits, settings, and completed work are preserved.

Important limit: local information cannot survive a lost or factory-reset device, or a deliberate clearing of browser/app data. A downloadable BRR backup is available in Settings for moving devices or keeping an independent copy.

How to use the BureauA short route through Today, Radar, Kitchen, Templates, and recovery tools.
  1. Capture or choose. Put responsibilities in Living Radar, or begin with an editable template, kit, routine, or ready-made day.
  2. Build Today. Combine a starting day with checked tasks, meals, and routines—or let Opportunity Protocol compile a short path from the current time, energy, place, and priorities.
  3. Open only what is needed. Today stays condensed; select a card to see guidance, checkable subtasks, connected food, or the next useful action.
  4. Complete, repeat, or roll forward. One action updates its connected sections. Unfinished work follows its chosen rollover rule instead of disappearing.
  5. Use Settings for the boundaries. Choose how much guidance is wanted, which meals appear, what may happen automatically, and what time must remain protected for The Unmeasurables.
Download, install & receive updatesUse it like an app without repeatedly checking for new versions.

The Bureau can be downloaded to a phone, tablet, or computer as an installable web app. On Android or desktop, use the browser’s Install app command. On iPhone or iPad, use Safari’s Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen. It opens in its own window and continues working offline after the first successful visit.

When the program is opened while online, it checks for updates automatically—there is no update page to monitor. If a new version is ready, an in-program notice offers Update safely now or Later. Updating first saves current work and creates a recovery point. A no-server program cannot send a push notification while it is completely closed, so the notice appears the next time the Bureau is opened online.

Automatic update checking is active on supported browsers.

3Passage ProtocolBundle meaningful work only when a route, room, or setup is already open.Optional
MEANINGFUL SHARED SETUP

Passage Protocol

Use an opening that is already happening—without turning every movement into work. BRR groups only recorded responsibilities, whole routines, shopping, or time-sensitive food that can genuinely save a restart, trip, or future problem.

What earns a place in a Passage Protocol?

A saved action must close a real loop, prevent waste, reduce another setup or trip, meet an approaching date, or carry a whole chosen routine. BRR does not invent filler such as carrying a cup merely to make the list look optimized. When nothing meaningful fits, the correct protocol is to move through the opening without adding work.

4Routine PathsKeep small steps together as an editable checklist or one-step guide.Support
EDITABLE DAILY SUPPORT

Routine Paths

Small life-skill steps stay together inside a chosen routine. Open the full checklist, use only essentials, or move through one step at a time.

How Routine Paths support different people and days

Routine Paths can support someone learning daily living skills, a person who benefits from cognitive or developmental assistance, or anyone temporarily overloaded, overstimulated, exhausted, or carrying too many decisions. Every routine and cue is editable. BRR does not diagnose, grade independence, or scatter personal-care steps into unrelated Opportunity Protocols.

How Field Signals work

Small, visible rules look for repeated rollover, nearby dates, shared setup, unfinished captures, and time-sensitive food. No AI, remote processing, or hidden scoring is used. Suggestions never erase responsibilities, and every meaningful change still belongs to the human in charge.
